If only Bridget had "spun on the parallel bars" or not fallen as "she tried to tip-toe across the balance beam," maybe...MAYBE...she would have had a chance. Seriously--forget the forward triple twist she's rumored to be training--if she's working a PB routine, that's REALLY going to pull her ahead in her scoring potential! Now if only she could master those tip-toeing requirements, or learn to turn a decent "somersault across the floor..."
This little tid-bit was extremely enlightening, as well:
"No woman helped her team more than Sloan last year when she finished sixth in the bars final to clinch the all-around title at the world championships in
Sorry. I know I'm being a bit of a bitch. I just get frustrated with the lack of interest in accuracy in gymnastics reporting. The bloggers and volunteer gym writers are seriously the first line in gym reporting (and I'm not talking about myself here--I mean the really knowledgeable bloggers who travel regularly, often on their own dimes, to give the fans decent reporting). I grow weary of the lack of respect for our sport and the small details that make an article credible. I think there are many talented, capable freelancers out there, and no one is immune to mistakes in reporting, but faulty gym reporting seems to be the status quo, and frankly, it twists my knickers a little bit.
End rant. And many thanks to the volunteer or poorly paid writers and interviewers out there who do it because they love and appreciate gymnastics--not because the assignment landed in their inbox and they needed a paycheck.

ReplyDeleteThat doesn't even make sense! It annoys me, too, that the writers don't check their facts. So many of the press releases for the post-games things Nastia and Shawn were doing had some wrong info about their titles and medals. It's really easy to find everything you need just on USA-Gymnastics.org!
I know! I read that line...and re-read that line...and then read it again.
ReplyDeleteAnd still, I walked away puzzled.
