The Year in Montages

I am a big fan of a well-edited gymnastics montage. Unfortunately, unlike my friend Spanny Tampson, I lack any semblance of talent in putting them together.

For your enjoyment, I give you the First Annual Year in Montages! Mostly featuring U.S. WAG, but not entirely. Enjoy!

New Seniors

Comebacks

American Cup

European Championships

The quality of this video is gorgeous.

Covergirl Classic

Visa National Championships

World Championships

Team

Easily one of my favorite montages of the year.

AA

Vault

Another favorite of the year.

Bars

I had a hard time finding something for bars. I nearly gave up and just posted a video of the coverage, but I did find this. Enjoy.

*I don't know what happened to the video I thought I had put here, and now I can't remember what it was. I'll poke around later and try to fill in this spot. Sorry 'bout that.

Beam

Floor

If I were casting The Hunger Games with gymnasts (which I actually might do...), AFan would be my Katniss.

Danell Leyva

Okay, I'm totally cheating here because this is not a montage, but it needed to be mentioned.

Kohei Uchimura

This man was THE star of the Championships. He's won three World AA titles in a row. This montage is a year old, but it was the best I could find for this.

Romania Shut Out of the Medals

This montage is not about that, but it's a team preview, and I think the story is significant enough to examine. I wonder if Romania is just having a rough quad, or if we're seeing them begin to go the way of the Ukrainians.

New Elements

Looking Ahead

I've skipped Pan Ams because there isn't SHIT out there that tells the story. There are a few Shawn montages, but I'd prefer to feature the whole team.

I'd also love a montage of Huang Quishang's World Cup performances.

Please link me to any montages that you feel tell the story of 2011. WAG or MAG, any country or combination of countries. As long as it highlights a significant piece of the 2011 puzzle, I want it!

A huge thanks to all the awesome montage makers, especially Spanny Tampson, iLitter, and MostepanovaFan!

  1. Can someone please explain what a "Johnson leap" is? It just looks like your standard switch-side... I've never understood how that got named after Shawn!

  2. It's not named after Shawn. It's named after Kathy. And I think the difference is that there's a quarter turn or something.
